As one commentator in the Journal said - a lot of bars/restaurants tend to stock a high proportion of Chilean wines leaving little choice for the consumer. I buy most of my wines in either O'Briens or Tesco and from my own observations people are afraid to experiment with different grape varieties and countries. People tend to stick with the old reliables - Blossom Hill, Concha y Toro, Faustino etc.

Yeah, I figured the popularity of Chilean wine with restaurants would be a factor... It wouldn't tally with my usual purchasing which would France, Italy, Spain in that order then a big gap to Chile, USA, New Zealand, Germany, Australia, Argentina.
