    What price are large good quality round bales of wheaten straw making this season delivered and stacked within a 20 mile radius? Large quantity required.

    I paid 6 euro a bale today

    What has straw so cheap this year?

    Can anyone break down which are the best type of bales to buy in bulk? round or medium or giant square?

    Less demand as there's plenty fodder around and its also been a bumper harvest for straw.
    Big squares are great if you can handle them, less space wasted in sheds.

    Yea i can see that, i have no way of moving them, but once the shed is filled, i would just open them where they stand,

    how many round bales would be in an 8x4x4 or 8x4x3 bale?

    I am switching to straw under the horses as it is nuts money for sawdust compared to straw!

    Em round bale = pie r squared x height= So 3.14 x 2x2 x 4 = 50 odd

    8x4x4 = 128

    8x4x3 = 96

    So 8x2.5x2.5 would be the same as a round bale??

    Very good I see you still remember your 6th class maths.

    You have calculated volume as in how much space it takes up not weight.

    4x4 round barley about 130/140 kg
    7x4x3 wheat about 240/250 kg

    That's what I think they were a few years ago when I weighed them

    volume x density = total weight
    they should be roughly the same density so calculating the volume is a valid comparison

    Definitely not the same density, can take a slice from a big square and get 10 kg, be alot of gathering to get 10 kg of round

    Your theory says they should be alot more of a difference than to what I weighed

    Why is wheaten straw better for feeding as to barley or oaten

    I find it breaks up more easily in a diet feeder anyway if including for.roughage. I think it has a higher oil content Also than barley. But it's cheaper too. Not worth a fcuk for bedding tho

    Ould lad with nothing in yard called here yesterday pricing up a few bales ,it seems the monsoon over the weekend made him nervous . what harm fodder is barely covering the cost of fert and contractor . i can only see the price going one way ,10 euro delivered is great value .You could have got baled silage (middling Quality) delivered localy for 15 ,which was never heard of before
