Proving you had a license

Bit of advice needed folks - heading abroad next month and need to rent a car for the duration of my stay. I only received my full license this month after being on a provisional since 2012.

The rental company usually require a full license of 1 year, but have said that if I can prove I had a provisional license since 2012 then they'll happily rent the car to me.

All I have is my full license with an issue date of this month, an I missing something obvious I can use as evidence of my provisional?

    hmmmm, not too sure.

But that being said, I would very much doubt whoever at the hiring company desk will care. But I can see why you're concerned all the same!

Yup, would hate to get there and be refused! Am thinking maybe a letter from my insurance company might work? Whether I can get hold of that is another thing though.

When I went travelling I brought a photocopy of my licence and had it stamped by the local Garda station in case I lost it. Thing is, I don't know if that works nowadays, try explaining to some cop in Cambodia that the stamp is legit

Can you get details from your driver file from NDLS?

There's an admin fee required but you can get a statement of sorts from NDLS which will say how long you have had your licence. Needs about a week or so for it to arrive tho.

    Thanks all for the advice.

I've requested the driver statement from NDLS and my insurance company have Shai forwarded on their copies of my old provisional licenses.

Hopefully that should be enough, I'll make sure that I'm happy the car rental company will accept them before travelling!
