    Hi all

I would like to have some advice on my next car.

Petrol is a must - I will do no more than 10,000 km /year

    Budget: between €3000 and €5500
    Engine : 1.6 - 1.8 max
    Year: not older than 2004

I will need a 4/5 door (I could also consider estate - I don't mind) decent boot, fairly quick (ideally RWD), high specs (with leather interior if possible), reliable a must and not too expensive to maintain (servicing and parts). MPG not an issue.

I'm looking for one of those

    - Merc C Class 180 kompressor >2005 automatic
    - Skoda Octavia 1.8 vRS
    - Alfa 159 1.8 (must have leather interior - Italian car but this one seems fairly reliable)
    - Volvo S40 1.8 R-design

I could stretch the budget a bit for
    - Mazda 6 1.8 (2008 shape - this will stretch the budget a little)
    - Honda Civic >2006 1.8 (ideally type S 5 doors - they seem very rare in Ireland)

    Cheaper alternatives could be:
    - Toyota Rav-4 1.8 (long wheel base - interior is fairly poor though)
    - Seat Leon 1.6 (only with Cupra body kit)

    I found those so far:

    - 2005 C Class 180 Avantgarde estate with sport pack for €3800 but with high mileage (145,000 miles)

    - 2005 C Class 180 Elegance for €4500 with low mileage (65,000 miles)

    - 2004 Skoda VRS for €3500 with 105,000 miles (one owner)

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

I'd push to 2 litre, lots of more choice of better cars like Honda Accord and Volvo S80/60.

I know (I';d love an Accord or a 5 series) but tax + insurance is more expensive and I don't have budget for that

Difference in tax in only about 70 euro which is not a lot over the year. Insurance could be the same as a 1.8

Don't rule out a 2.0 until you have your figures done up fully

Would maintenance and servicing be higher though?

Would it be worth the extra cost as I will use the case at the week end only.

I browsed around quickly but they seems too expensive to buy on my budget. i don't want to drop the years too much.

You do realise that not every 1.8 will cost the same to service or maintain

    2006 Honda Accord Type S:

    2007 Honda Accord Type S:

There is not a huge difference in running costs between 1.8 and 2.0 litre.
