Wife is getting a new provisional licence so she applied for the test but to date, we've received no confirmation as to the date for that test.

Is the fact that you have applied for the test and are waiting on the date for it enough to get the licence?

She needs to get the learner permit/provisional first and then she'll have to wait at least 6 months before getting a driving test date.

If it is a learner permit renewal, then she will be notified 4 weeks before the test of the test date.

Check out the average waiting time for the test centre and subtract 4 weeks from that - that's about when she should be notified of the test date.

I think he means she's renewing her permit, there's no way of applying for a test if you don't already have the permit.

OP, I think you can renew after two years and two years again, after that you need to have proof that you either undertook a driving test or have applied for one in order to renew the learner permit.

Regardless, you will also need to bring to the centre, proof of address, her old learner permit, proof of ID and proof of PPSN and a new application form. If you have that documentation, you can either fill out the application form while you wait in the waiting room or bring it up to the desk attendant and they'll help you through it.

She is re-applying for a new permit. Might be no 4. Is proof that she has applied for the test sufficient or does she need an actual confirmed test date?

If she presents evidence at the NDLS of a forthcoming driving test appointment, i.e. a print-out of the application confirmation email from the driving test system, she will be issued with a one-year learner permit. If she presents evidence of having failed a driving test in the preceding twelve months, she will be issued with a two-year permit.
