I just received an email from the lottery.ie with the BIG NEWS that their "Lotto" is now BIGGER AND BETTER!

The first line of the email already made me laugh
From Thursday 3rd of September, Lotto will become bigger and better! We’ve added two new numbers so now you can pick any six from 1 to 47. This means Lotto can give you bigger Jackpots, better prizes and more ways to win in every draw.

They actually describe it in a way that upping the numbers from 45 to 47 numbers, is a GOOD thing.

    Odds 1-45:
    1 in 8,145,060

    Odds 1-47:
    1 in 10,737,573

Mathematically speaking, as of Thursday 3rd of September, your chances of winning the jackpot, will decrease by 31%. But hey... the bigger and better! :D

    Gotta love PR!

Got the same email. They have wasted a few bytes on me. Higher prices with less chances of winning is the excuse I needed to cop on and stop playing!

Like lots of part-time job, with a listed advantage of flexible, when they really mean, staff are available 24/7 for a zero hour contract hours can vary from none to infinately large in a given weekly, you may be asked to work at 15 minute notice for for period of anything of anything of 5 minute to 2 weeks straight.

What I want to know is why the new tv adverts have a voiceover with an American accent. Did they buy the ads cheap from a US lottery company?

Thought I had a pretty good chance of scooping the jackpot at 1 in 8,000,000.

But at 1 in 10,000,000? - no way.

I'll do the same as I always do; wait until there's a big jackpot (€10m+). No point wasting money beforehand.

Played the online lotto once, my phone went off at 6am from an email notification from them that said "WE HAVE GREAT NEWS ABOUT YOUR WINNINGS!!"

Log onto Lotto account to see that I had won €1

    Couldn't get back to sleep.

Sure buy an extra line and will sort that conundrum. "Something... something.. even more euros..." I'll go now. :D

I for one was sick of winning all the time anyways. It is time to introduce suits to it. 3 of spades, 14 of hearts, 27 of clubs, etc. what you do not realise is that by reducing the chance of winning it means we need to play twice as much to stay winning nothing.

Got the same email even though I had specifically opted out of their spammy promotional junk so I closed my account.

I always hated the lottery because they wouldn't let me pick my favourite number (49)

I refuse to play unless they add in 2 extra numbers

Is that with 9 bonus balls? or does it take into consideration the extra 2 that they managed to sneak in a while ago.

match 5 + bonus in Euro millions is approx €200,000, last week it was £330,000 in the uk for match 5 + bonus.

    Match 5 + bonus with Lotto.ie is a meager €25,000.

*there are 50 balls in the Euromillions draw

That's the odds to win the jackpot, 5 main balls and 2 'lucky stars'

there are 50 balls in the euromillions, you're much less likely to match 5 balls plus the bonus in the euromillions than you are in the Irish lottery

    6,473,989 to one

Ok, i just googled it. That's the current odds. Previously there were less balls and the odds were 76,275,360 to 1.

They're just going to keep adding balls.

Picking numbers in the bookies lowers the odds by a lot apparently. You won't win the big money but win tidy sums now and then

You're not going to win anyway. So you might as well dream about winning bigger amounts

Euro millions did the same, but they didn't increase the price, but they increased the numbers by more, so chances went from 1/80 million
to 1/120 million or similar ...

but hey, ticket is still E2 :)

Going up to €100,000 as part of these changes.

It really is a bloody mugs game when you think about it though isn't it ?

I mean at least with sports gambling you can use your knowledge of the game for at least some "control" ...
