Hi I have a problem with tank ,, central heating not heating water .. rads upstairs are heating perfect . Flow pipe going into tank is warm(but not as hot as the rad supply pipes) and return pipe from tank is stone cold ... Both red valves are wide open and also burner isn't restarting ( as if it think the water has heated up enough ) only coming back on after I turn on thermo status upstairs or down stairs ..... any help much appreciated ..

Turn off all radiators and leave the cylinder balancing valve open.If there is a blockage or air lock to the cylinder this should clear it.

Do you have zones for upstairs and downstairs and hot water cylinder

There is a stat upstairs and down stairs and if I put both to water setting the heating only heated the water , and if I have the stats turned to say 20 it heats water and rad ,,, water is always heated , but now when I turn the stats to water it doesn't restart the burner ,, if that makes sense

sounds like you have a motorised valve stuck closed or its not getting a signal to open,it would look something like this

Also have you a thermostat on your copper cylinder

I'm starting to think either pump is screwed or the system is air locked , downstairs is heating and the pipe that supplies hot water to the upstairs is hot downstairs but when I trace it up its cold and no motorised valves between upstairs and down stairs on that pipe

Is it a sealed system? If so it could be very low on water.

Yes it's a sealed system , the loop top up is open fully , when I turn on pump it's not circulation up to the auto air vent even though I have all rads off

Is there a gauge on the filling valve? If there is what pressure is it showing? Water pressure alone should be sufficient to drive any air out through the air bleed. The filling valve could be blocked or stuck in the closed position if it's an automatic filling valve, they aren't the most reliable component in the world.

No gauge anywhere on the system , top up plumbed from tank in attic ,

Is there enough water in the system? Who discovered the blocked tee? How did you check the pump without draining down?

A plumber came over and assumed the tee was blocked he gave it a few bangs and the pipes seems to get hot/warm but I'm thinking it was coinsidence ,,,,, I took off pump closes all valves including bypass valves so the only valve that was open was the loop top up ,,, then open the valve after boiler and water gussed out so I think k the boiler is filling and and there are no blockages , I'm going to change pump even though I took it out and the prepeller is turning when I turn it on
