    Hi
Over the last few weeks we have had problems with our water in toilets dishwasher showers. Eventually the shower was not pumping any water through and motor was heating up badly. After taking apart shower valve noticed substance / yellow goldish material that I had not seen before. Went to attic and loads more of substance/ material in bottom of water tank.
Anybody any ideas what it is

No idea, but it looks to be oily.

Where is your water supply comming from? Public mains or group scheme or have you any filters on private well?
Reminds me of stuff in an old chemistry set i had years ago. Was used to purify water. Went by the name of ion exchange resin. If you google it it shows up something similar. Could be more houses affected if its a public supply. Definitely someone needs to be contacted if so.

It's coming from mains so must call into neighbours to see if they having issues. No lt honey or anything like that. Cleaned out tank yesterday so must check later for a daily build up.
Looked up ion exchange raisin and defo looks like that. We have a water softener machine but that uses salt. I thought that the softener fed only washing machine and utility. I forgot to fill softener for awhile.

If you have a water Softner then that's the problem. The resin cylinder is burst and its mixing into the water. You can get them replaced
