RTÉ One HD/RTÉ Player coming on Sky Ireland and RTÉ could be launching in the UK! Excellent News

From The Sunday Times -

RTE and the satellite TV provider Sky have agreed a multimillion-euro digital and broadcasting partnership which will deepen ties between both organisations for the next five years.

The deal will result in the RTE Player, the station’s catch-up service, becoming available on the Sky box for the first time, while much of the broadcaster’s content will be on the Sky Go service, ensuring its availability on a range of digital devices.

This is seen as bolstering RTE accessibility to younger, tech-savvy customers, while ensuring Sky will be capable of delivering RTE content to Irish customers.

There is also the possibility that some RTE stations could be available on Sky in the UK.

It is understood that the arrangements are worth between €1m and €2m a year to the national broadcaster, but RTE will need to invest in technology to deliver on its commitments to Sky. As part of the deal,
