Difference in floor level in existing house n extension

Hi, looking for a bit of advice ahead of talking to builders tomorrow.
We are in process of building extension onto our back-ground floor only. Walls, ceiling and floors done and big window/doors at back due to go in shortly.
Our carpenter came yesterday and said our new floors are up to 2 inches lower than floors in existing house instead of flush with them-it will be open plan by the way. He had 2 spirit levels and appears that is the case.
He also said if floors of extension are brought up level with existing house, then it may affect the appearance of our back windows which are floor to ceiling. I.e the floor will come up very high on frame.
He cannot understand why this would be?
We are going to meet builders in morning but as we know little or nothing about building would really appreciate any advice or information from anybody who might know if there might be sound reason for this-in case builders try to fob us off...
    Thanks in advance.

What ground level was shown on the extension drawing that formed part of the contract between you and the builder.

I'd make this your architects problem to solve with the builder.

If it were me and I had drawings to prove I was in the right, I'd put down self levelling screed. & re order the windows sized to suit.

Are you living in the house while the works are going on, ie will the delay affect you renting for longer?

    Thanks for your reply.
On your advice we contacted architect.
Builders are going to lower floor of existing house as it is not the original floor and is uneven in places. In certain areas it does actually match the extension floor level.
So hopefully all will be ok- thanks again:)
