I'll be in Galway next week. I'd like to do my long run (20-30km) in the middle of the week.

Does anyone know of a nice route (preferably off-road, but I'll take anything) around the Salthill/Galway City area? Perhaps even a loop? I don't mind driving a bit if necessary.

If you want proper off road, you may have to cut across to Roscahill or Moycullen to the woods there. Otherwise you would get a few quiet back roads up around Barna (with hills) like this

Merlin woods, ballyloughane beach, renmore train bridge, docks area, long walk, Spanish arch, salthill, back through the city via the canals, nuig campus, up the Corrib via dangan.

Bit vague but if you join the dots you'll see Galway at its finest and avoid road as much as possible.

Thanks for those. It looks like there's a path/pavement all the way from Salthill to Spiddal. Can someone confirm this, please? It wouldn't be ideal but pretty straight forward...

There is a path all the way to Spiddal and for another 5 miles after that. The path isn't great in places but you'll manage. I really hate that route as the cars absolutely whizz by you and it's a bit monotonous. You'll have to cross the road once or twice to stay on the path.

I'm based in Galway City, generally do my long runs on a 4mile loop of Dangan, quite, completely off road, and plenty of twists and turns to keep it interesting. Also handy if you want to stash a bottle of water in a bush and pass it every 4 miles.

If leaving galway direction, take the first right I think after Westwood which is a small access road to dangan track.. The running paths are just past the track...

You could also access through nuig but Westwood area more straight forward....
I'll throw up a link when I get home...
