    Hi folks,
    Looking at buying a BWM 2009 320D E92 M Sport Automatic.
I've heard rumblings about the timing chain going on these but BMW offering to repair them as a "Quality Enhancement."
If anyone has any wisdom to offer on the subject it would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Sarah

Ask the dealer was it done.
    If not ,
Ask them to check for the tolerances allowed under the BMW QE program.

What garage are you looks at it in?

I'd rather get one that already has had the chain replaced. Getting BMW to replace it free of charge is proving hit and miss depending on which dealer you talk to or what BMW say the day you ask them.

I was under the impression the chain issue is not as common on the autos because of the smoother gear changes.

Still happens to them too though.

Cheers guys - the sensible thing to do would be to tell the garage it needs to be done as a condition of the sale.

    Thanks again

I'd be wanting to see proper receipts if any garage offers to replace the timing chain. Replacing the chain will be cutting out serious profit from the car so it could leave it open to the fix not being done correctly.

    Just my 2c

I believe BMW are doing them as a "Quality Enhancement" so not sure it would cost the dealer anything. It's going into Joe Duffy's tomorrow for them to assess it. Told the dealer it's a deal breaker so now just have to sit tight.

Very unlikely they will agree to that unless they contact BMW and they agree to change it. If BMW are not covering the cost then I cannot see the garage you are buying it from changing it at their own expense. It's a fairly labour intensive job and would probably wipe out any profit margin they make on the sale. I'd say they will take their chance on the chain not needing attention for the duration of the warranty they give you.

They're bringing in to Joe Duffy's (BMW) tomorrow. Not doing it themselves.

Is Joe Duffy replacing the chain?

They're bringing it to Joe Duffy for them to assess it to find out if it falls under the "QE" scheme. If so then yes, they would be replacing it.
