I am just having a small family dinner after the church and then going to have a party in the evening inviting roughly another 70, I am thinking of telling them to be there at 8 with the intention of having the first dance at 9. What time should food be served at?

I suppose it depends on what the food is... If it's sandwiches, cocktail sausages, etc -i.e typical afters food, you can leave it a bit later, til a break in the music or something. If it's a more substantial buffet type meal or something, you'd want to be having it first id say. But make sure your guests know your intentions- make sure they don't arrive on at eight expecting a meal, if they're not getting it.

My hotel is doing evening food at 10.30/11 ish afaik.
I suppose its whenever you want it out it comes out.
Evening food at 9.30/10 would go nicely with your schedule.

are you having a band? ask the band to work with hotel, if the band do 2 hours, an hour in is usually when the food should be served so entertainment is split evenly. If a dj, it doesnt matter 10.30-11 is the usual. Ask the hotel as well, they do this for a living rather than you having a guess at it.
