I am trying to locate this cabinet, to estimate what my distance is to it for speed estimation reasons. But I can't find it anywhere!

Is there any chance its in the apartment buildings basement? Has anybody heard of an eircom cabinet not being on the street?

Could it be in an underground vault?

Seems like my hunch was right, according to Irelandoffline map. As I live in the building, hopefully get decent speeds being in the same building as the DSLAM.

You should get 100/20 for sure living on top of the cab like that but is there no UPC available there?

Nope! Some <snip> company called CableWatch.

The vdsl cab may not in the Comms room, could be outside somewhere, it needs an unmetered power supply and easy access for installs. If the cab is live, got to https://www.eircom.net/broadband/home?r=y and click buy now. After entering your address/phone number you should have an option to see the speed you should get.

Got vdsl installed this morning, DSLAM defo in comms cabinet in building basement. As it is for most apartments around here. KN engineer said, its quiet common.

Wonder do they use a modified version (or even if they are Huawei at all) with fewer ports in these types of installs.

I saw the DSLAM. It was a standard Huawei one, with 1 service card in place. 42 apartments connected so far. Its in a "standard computer rack" in a locked comms room, rather than the outside green cabs.

Cable distance between DSLAM and the NTU socket is 22 meters. 17 meters for 5 floors and then some routing meters. Speed is full 100Mb/20Mb.

I can imagine the hold ups if you have an uncooperative OMC or Management Agent.

Today's install started with me finding the building maintenance guy to get the key to the comms room!

Incidentally, this does seem like an "ideal use-case" for G.Fast.
