What would be the best type of Strimmers to cut/trim shrubs. Also, I would like to use it to cut the grass edges of a lawn. I have never used a Strimmer. Does it require sharpening. What kind of price range could I expect.

A petrol powered multi function brushcutter is a good tool. You have the option of strimmer line spool for grass edges or 3 and 4 teeth metal cutting wheels for rough undergrowth. For pruning shrubs, then use your own hands and a secateurs or a bypass loppers.
