    I just use a normal plastic pallet covered in straw. No problems so far

    Yea that's another option but I was thinking that these would save time as there would be no need for straw so all they would need is a quick power wash.

    Enough straw on top then there's no need to wash

    For suckler calves over about a week old, I use "Mayo" mats http://www.mayomats.com/ on a sloped floor. Very little else needed, maybe an odd rub of a brush or a sprinkle of wood shavings. Calves seem to be quite happy and no mess with straw going down the slats. Very light to handle and clean, IMO way ahead of heavy rubber mats.
