Posted this in the B2W thread but didn't get any replies.

    Hi folks.

Looking to get my second B2W in January. Previous bike was a Giant Roam2, still motoring away for me.

I am looking to get a Road Bike now and been in with my LBS just now but they tell me my preferred 2015 Giant Defy 1 is and will be out of stock at my purchase time.

The 2016 model will be available but I see the Defy 1 will be disc brakes and am increase to €1400 or a little less. I don't mind adding a little to the €1000 but €400 is alot really.

Could anyone suggest a similar model with a full 105 groupset at €1200 Max.

Is there a noticeable difference between Tiagra and 105 groupsets?

Should o just settle on say a Defy 2 or similar?
    Thanks for any replies.

Cube Peloton SL €1149. Hard to track down but I was in a shop a couple of days ago that had some in stock.

    2015 Model?

Are Cube to increase prices on 2016 as well do you know?

It is a 2015 model. I don't see the Peloton on their website for 2016. I'm not sure if the Attain is replacing it. I saw that their entry level Attain on an English bike shop website was £599. I think that was the same as an entry level 2015 Peloton.

FYI. Here's the spec of the Peloton SL:
    • Frame: Aluminium Superlite, AMF, Double Butted, RFR-Geometry, Internal Cable Routing
    • Color: black´n´white
    • Size: 50, 53, 56, 58, 60, 62, 64 cm semisloping
    • Fork: CUBE CSL Race Carbon, Tapered
    • Headset: CUBE Z-t ECO, top zero-stack 1 1/8" (OD 44mm), bottom integrated 1 1/2"
    • Stem: CUBE Performance Pro, 6°
    • Handlebar: CUBE Wing Race Bar, Compact
    • Handlebar tape: CUBE Grip Control
    • Rear derailleur: Shimano Ultegra RD-6800GS, 11-Speed
    • Front derailleur: Shimano Ultegra FD-6800BL, 34.9mm Clamp
    • Shift / brake lever unit: Shimano 105 ST-5800, 2x11-Speed
    • Brake system: Shimano 105 BR-5800
    • Crankset: Shimano 105 FC-5800-L, 50x34T,170mm (50/53cm), 172,5mm (56/58/60cm), 175mm (62/64cm) Hollowtech II
    • Cassette: Shimano 105 CS-5800, 11-32
    • Chain: Shimano CN-HG600-11
    • Wheelset: MAVIC Aksium S
    • Tires: MAVIC Aksion, 65A Compound, 25-622
    • Saddle: CUBE RP 1.0
    • Seat post: CUBE Performance Post, 31.6mm
    • Seatclamp: RFR Close 34.9mm
    • Weight: 8,75 kg

    Thanks.

Just been looking at it on Bikestore.ie.

Seems a well regarded and kitted out bike. Just have to find the 2016 range and see if it is being replaced and/or increased in price.

To keep prices level they might revert back to unbranded parts. i have a cube from 2011 and it came with all 105s except for brake calipers and crankset.

It worked before so they might go back to that again.

At €1149/it fits lovely but if it increases by €200 like the Defy I'm not sure what one I'd choose.

Peleton has indeed being replaced by the Attain and with the 105 + disc brakes it is £1200 and entry level model has Shimano Claris ( know nothing of it)

I have a 2014 Felt F85 with Tiagra front and back (the "old" Tiagra now I guess, 10speed) and can't fault Tiagra at all. Very smooth and nice to use. You can pick up a 2015 F85 for €1,129 in most places that stock them, Wheelworx for example. I love mine.

For general use, Tiagra will certainly suffice and would even be fine for racing or sportives. I know a guy in a local club who uses an old version of Claris and he's the fastest up and down the hills!

It is for normal type road bike cycling I need it for, train for a Sportif of some sort next year.

I have been lead to believe that 2015 bikes can't be got in 2016 by my LBS, surely this is incorrect?

If a 2015 can be gotten in January this makes my choice pool alot bigger

Some stores should have 2015 bikes left in stock, depending on which model. I got my 2014 Felt in March, got over €300 off (€999 reduced to €690) as it was last year's model. I'd imagine some stores would do similar next year.

Hopefully as I'd prefer not to have disc brakes if possible even though they sound great.

Guess I will have to ring around my area to check stock before committing to a 2016 bike.

Tipp,Kilkenny,Waterford would be my easier options.

Hi, I'm following this thread (and others!) as I'm in that price point in the market. Just for your information, the giant website is showing non-disc 2016 Defy models! http://www.giant-dublin.ie/en-ie/bikes/series/defy/25072/

Still unsure whether to go carbon/ composite with lesser components or go for alu with the better components!

I have decided not to go with carbon starting out as I feel 105 component on a ALU frame is a pretty good start point.

I am going to two retailers this weekend so will ask about disc/non disc prices for 2016 bikes.

Can you buy online? I purchased my 2nd BTW bike from Wiggle nearly 2 years ago and saved a bundle. January was the earliest I could buy, and I stressed myself out for a few months by frequently looking at the available bargains from about this time of the year up to the 1st Jan (I actually bought it at a little after midnight!) to see what was still available.

At the moment they have the following Felt models which I'm guessing would suit you:
    1. Felt Z75 (2015) with Alu frame and 105 - reduced from €1,391.95 to €835.17: link
    2. Felt Z75 Disc (2015) with Alu frame, 105 & disks - reduced from €1,390.56 to €1,042.92: link
Have fun with the F5 key for the next few months!

P.S. Apologies for coming under budget with the above ;)

Unsure how buying online will work with my employer? It's a large Pharma plant who seem to only deal with bricks n mortar shops.

I will enquire though as it does expand my options.

Companies like Wiggle are registered for Irish VAT, so the process is straightforward - there is no reason why this should be restricted to B&M shops unless the company decides that. Ultimately, you are paying for this - the company is just facilitating the purchase through the payroll system.

From what I have read on the Wiggle website, standard payment options are debit and credit cards and Paypal. Elsewhere, they have a (UK, I guess) Bike to Work guide where they state: "We also give employers the option to pay for the bike and cycle accessories online using a company credit card or to pay by cheque." Might be worth giving them a call to find out. I'd guess, the easier you make this sound to your payroll dept. - and the less work they have to do - the better chance you have.

In general, you will get a better deal on line, but the downside is you have less support. I was happy to accept this compromise and my employer was willing to allow me to use the company credit card

As I said previously, according to the Giant website, there will be a Defy and a Defy Disc for 2016. However, the non disc 2016 Defy does have a price increase on the 2015 model.

My experience of disc brakes on my mountain bike is great for braking, but can be a bit of a pain if you have to remove a wheel (with rubbing, and then adjusting the calipers).

Callipers always seem to require adjusting after taking off a wheel. How did the pro's manage it while testing recently?

I haven't seen this myself in 2 hardtail mountain bikes with discs - one with a hydraulic and the other a basic cable setup.

I'd guess if this is the case for road bikes, it would be a show stopper.

I find it a nuisance with my hybrid. Maybe it's just the particular model of callipers.
