 I never registered with IW but I got a bill addressed to me today. Where does IW get the details of homeowners who have not registered with IW?

Irish Water has, pursuant to section 26 of the Water Services Act 2013, which enables it to request information from relevant persons, collated information from a number of sources to produce a customer database.

As information was sought from a number of sources and merged into Irish Water's database, it is not possible to accurately state the exact source of your data, but the relevant persons listed in section 26 and subsequent ministerial order include the Revenue Commissioners, ESB, PRTB, the Local Government Management Agency, Local Authorities and An Post. We cannot provide information about how the databases Irish Water use were compiled. They were done so by the various businesses and government departments who provided them to us.

One further question. When IW issue statistics regarding the level of customer registration, am I regarded as having registered?

As you are currently not registered with Irish Water, your default registration would not influence the statistics on the level of customer registrations.
