Hi, I'm thinking of going down to route of exporting cars to the UK just to test the water to see if it is viable. I'm wondering is there a limit to the amount of cars that I can claim back vrt on in Ireland. And also if there is a limit to the amount cars I can import into the UK (put on English plates and put through mot, on the road ready etc). Would I have to be a dealer in Ireland to so, thanks, I welcome any advice

Importing vehicles into the UK is not straightforward, here VRT and a bit of form filling and its done. Not so in the UK, I have spoken to several people that have had no end of hassle with cars that they tried to bring in as residents all above board and ended up bringing them back here due to bureaucracy in the UK.

Thanks CJhaughey, do I mind me asking what trouble they encountered when trying to do it? Any information is greatly appreciated

I saw that link but doesn't state what I want to know regarding the maximum amount that can be exported.! If there is a maximum that is.! I thought I was just a case of putting her on plates and putting it through the nct, just looking for someone who's done it before to confirm it

You can send out as many as you want there is no maximum. Beware though you'll have to declare it to revenue for tax purposes

It's not a straightforward mot and register situation though. You'll have to have a current NCT on it here or get one so it will qualify for vrt rebate and not all will. Some brought in under various exemptions will catch you out.

Any fresh yoke with km clocks will have to be converted and paddy spec yokes are harder to sell in the uk. Also some issues with emissions if I remember on stuff.

Best advise buy/try to buy uk imports and go from there. Bigger engine bigger value stuff the best money maker.
