    Hi all,

Getting Skipping/Crackling on my sound card when laptop is busy!

Have re-built still the same (though not as bad)

Have turned off "Enhancements" but no difference

    Windows 7

Sound card on the way out?

    Thanks!
    Keith.

The sound chip in the laptop is a software based one, with the CPU under load EM interference is bleeding through (fault, deterioration ?), hence the crackling and distortion.

I don't think that is something you can fix, you could try replacing the sound card with an external USB one and maybe it wont be as bad but every USB sound card I've ever used had some minor background hiss when using headphones.

    Thanks for that!

If there is nothing I can do it looks like it could be time for a USB DAC ... had been thinking of getting one a while back.

Cambridge DAC Magic XS gets great reviews!

I would be hoping that there is no background hiss!
