    Asking €1,650

I'm looking for an Estate one of these with the 2.2 Diesel.
Hard to find a reasonable one though.
Looked at one but it was more Banger than Bangernomics.

Have one myself. 04 one, horrible expense when the chain needs to be repaired which means if you want to avoid this sort of cost you are looking at a 06 onwards one.
Have the Exec version which has everything I believe, boot is huge and was super impressive during our recent trip to Italy.
Economy aint great but I noticed it differs a lot depending on the type of fuel I buy.
If you get the one with sat nav which I have then be prepared for the dvd player to fail which it inevitably will.
Also, it can give issues with the electric boot opening/closing but luckily so far I havent' had it.
Oh and you must always buy the fuel filter from Honda themselves. The car doesn't like anything else other than offical filters.
    Best of luck.

Looking at Ex models myself, don't really fancy the Sport.
what was the difference between the 04-06 versions with the timing chain?
I thought all the 2.2 were the same until the new shape?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

If I wanted a diesel bangernomics estate, I don't think I'd go for an Accord. How about 320d / R75 / or Superb, Audi, Passat all 1.9tdi?

I should be clear I am looking at 50% above Bangernomics prices
The big selling point for me is the size of the boot in the estate, I don't think any of them have as much volume as the Gen 7 Accord Tourer.

Superb - can't get much bigger but I don't know what year they came out and if they are in your budget.
    Split tailgate is handy too

They were launched in 2010 I think so a bit out from my budget yet.

You'd be doing very well to get a bangernomics Superb estate!

What about a mk3 Mondeo? Diesels had a timing chain, loads of space and Ghia/titanium have excellent spec. Can buy for peanuts too.

They aren't bad but every one I see I think hello Garda.
The TDCI can be good, but I have seen a lot of problems with the DMF and Fuel pumps on them, enough to make me a little wary.

A facelifted first gen Citroen C5 might fit the bill, go for 2.0 or 2.2hdi, the 1.6 can be troublesome, or maybe a facelifted Vectra C. Both must have close to the biggest boots available is d segment estates of that era.

I think you're right about the C5. From memory only an E-class of that era had a bigger boot. And that's obviously a class size up

Citroen C5 estates with the 2.0, or 2.2 are rarer than the Honda Tourer!
Not many of the Vectra C either.
I am going to look in the UK as well, this class of estate is just not that popular here and the supply is very limited.
Sterling has dropped back against the € a little so it may be lightly easier to buy something.
My Bangernomics MK1 Avensis TD has been good for nearly 100,000 miles in 3 years but at 318,000 its nearly ready for retirement.

By 06 Honda had modified the chain assembly which stopped it having premature failure.
They are all the same engine/power output (140) but just the chain assembly was changed as it cost Honda a fortune in warranty repairs.
The other issue with that engine is the exhaust manifold can crack.
Best way to know it's gone bad is to see if you can smell fumes in the cabin when stopped.
Chain noise will give a hum/whir noise when idle. Check which oil the previous owner has been using, if it's 0w30 then it's good to go but if not then run as helps cause the premature chain failure.
The boot I repeat is massive, very underestimated and it has a built in subwoofer there as well which gives good bass :D
Exec spec is elec sunroof, satnav, elec all round, auto wipers and heated seats.

FL which wouldn't have the chain issues but it is the poverty spec and quite expensive.

This could be a good one even though it's an 04 - claims service history so you'd know straight off what's the story, better spec than the above and a nice colour. Leather seems a bit tired.

I looked at both of them but I really need Diesel, I am averaging 27k miles a year.
I know that a petrol is a much less risky proposition but the difference in fuel prices is massive atm and even at 10c its still substantial.
For 5k I'd still be better off buying in the UK, and importing it myself.

I was looking for a Honda Accord Diesel Estate a month or so ago - I ended up going for the saloon, as an estate wasn't a necessity and they were hard to find here.

I did ring about this one - http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/honda-accord-2-2-cdti-executive-full-leather/9733430?offset=4
and it was still for sale. It might be a bit overpriced for an 04, but it looks clean and has claimed full service history and low miles.
Only has NCT 'til Dec and it's been up for a while so you should be able to get a bit off the asking.

I bought an '06 Accord Diesel saloon about 3 weeks ago and very happy with it, drives great considering it has over 300K KM on it, and I'm getting almost 50mpg.

Sorry didn't notice the other was a petrol.
Yes at 5k it's a piss take and maybe you'd be better off heading to the UK.
I know you've said it already but I've heard the 2.4 petrol is supposed to be the best of the lot.
Very reliable and if driven sensibly can almost match the diesel.
But if you are heading to the UK for the estate then I'd go the full hog and get the highest spec possible.
Just remember to check out all the elecs and the horrible chain noise.
