    Hello
    I got my first learners permit back in 2009 and is expired since 2011.
    I had great plans to learn to drive and get on the road but decided to spend the money I'd saved on a car to do a bit of traveling.

    Anyway i need to get going again what's the story ? can i renew the one I've got?
    Or do i need to do the theory test again?

    You're grand as you are- Learner Permits need to be expired 5 years before you go back to square 1 (it's 10 years for full entitlements).

    If you still have the permit, you can book your NDLS appointment and renew for 2 years. Have a look on their website for the docs you'll need but basically what you'll need is as follows;

    A completed D201 application for a Learner Permit
    Proof of PPSN
    Proof of address IF you're current address is different to the one on the permit
    A medical report if you answered yes to any of the driver fitness questions
    Proof of a change of surname if applicable or to add a middle name etc
    An eyesight report ONLY IF you used to need glasses and now no longer need to do so (such as having had laser surgery)

    You WON'T need photos as they'll snap you at the centre
    You won't have to worry about EDT
