No stock of Franziskaner in my lidl in Ashbourne for last week or so. Staff don't seem to know when or if it will be back. Are all other Lidls out of stock too?

I bought some last week in Tallaght (beside the stadium). It was down in price there (and not on special offer) too.

Gone from my local Lidl too. Replaced by my tears. Hope this is a temporary set back (the lack of Franziskaner, not the wailing). Did buy some Irish crafty lager instead and enjoyed it. Every cloud and all that ...

It looks like it may be gone then. Tried the Aldi wheat beer which is okay but not as nice as franziskaner imo. Off to O'Briens from now on then!

They had loads in the lidl by me last night, the price wasn't reduced, so I don't think k it's been discontinued.

In terms of grocery shopping I love Lidl. Quality of food is excellent and very reasonably priced. In comparison Aldi is disorganised and I find their veg, especially their specials goes off very quickly.

Unfortunately Lidl's beer selection has gone to fook. The only reason I go to Aldi now is to buy beer.

A bit of warning would have been nice, I would have leveled the boot of the car off last time it was on special if I had of known.

Hopefully Lidl wil follow suit with the introduction of craft ales available to the UK stores to their stores here...

Got an email back from Lidl

We take great pride in selling high quality products at competitive prices. However in this case the Franziskaner Weizenbier was not in our stores on the advertised date due to a supplier problem.

Please be advised that as we are a discount store we constantly look around various suppliers for the best quality product at the cheapest price and occasionally this can incur a break in the supply chain. We are sorry for any inconvenience that has been caused to you and we hope to have this item available again in the near future and will re-advertise prior to going on sale.

We would like to thank you for alerting us to this matter, as customer feedback is a valued tool to measure and maintain quality. Please be assured that your comments will be passed to our Purchasing Department.

You wouldnt find it in a lot of German Supermarkets even. You would generally have to go to a Getraenkemarkt. Its not that popular in Germany. They mainly only drink Helles.

There is a dunkel version of Franziskaner

might be worth asking lidl if they can stock it.

I remember drinking the dunkel version about 20 years ago and thought it was amazing. I knew f*ck all about beer at the time though, so possibly my opinion is to be taken with a pinch of salt, but I'd love to taste it again.

It's "amazing" compared to the rubbish dunkel's most off licenses have e.g. eirdinger, I've no idea who drinks this but I'd love to meet them. :D

It's not as nice as weihenstephaner but it's not a world apart. It's a decent dunkel.

Haven't checked it in last week or so, but has been in stock since this thread in my local Lidl - plus the 'standard' price had gone down to the old €1.79.
