TV using built-in digital tuner only

    Hi folks,
A very basic question : if I wanted to just have a TV in a room, without an STB (just using the TV's built-in digital tuner), what are my options? The TV is a 2014 Sony Bravia so it should be compatible with whatever I'd have to install.

My house is wired for UPC now (feed runs into the attic to a 4-way splitter), so there isn't any dish or aerial installed now, but I understand I'll need one or both to get Saorview (only a handful of channels, iirc) or Freeview. I live in Dublin, presumably I could get some of the UK signals via aerial.

I'm thinking of giving UPC the boot in terms of TV, just keeping them for broadband and phone, and going to free tv / Netflix for my family's audiovisual requirements :)

    Thanks in advance

An indoor aerial that you get from the likes of Argos or Power City might work, this will give you the Saorview channels. It all depends on your location from the nearest transmitter and what the structure of your house is as to what signal can get through. In an ideal world an outdoor aerial is recommended.

An indoor aerial might work in some parts of the city for Saorview (Irish channels only). You might get one in your local Euro shop. Dont bother getting any fancy boosted or amplified indoor aerial. They are a a con that only wastes electricity. You wont get any UK channels on an aerial unless you are in a very high location such as the Dublin mountains and even then it would need to be a sizeable outdoor one. You will need a satellite dish and box to get any UK channels reliably.
