Hi folks, excuse my ignorance here :)

I was peeking around the router page (192.168.1.254) for our ZyXEL P-660HN-T1A and ended up finding the firmware version which says : 1.02(VBC.3)D0

I done a quick google search and from what I can see, there are higher versions released? If that is correct (Which it might not haha!) should I update to the newest version? Would there be any improvements?

I would love to hear someone two cents on this, thanks!

Upgrading the firmware on this router would be a definite improvement, as the wifi capability is awful ...if your ISP is Eircom, unfortunately you have hit a brick wall as Eircom for whatever reason have not approved the newer firmware available for the ZyXel.
They will not leave you upgrade to non-Eircom approved FW.

Hi there, thanks a mill for that! I am unfortunately with eircom :( I use a wired connection, if eircom did approve in the future or if I was to get possibly a different router would there be any improvement as far as that type of connection?

I'll look into getting a new router for definite, really appreciate that :)

Yep Mightydrumming I had to bite the bullet and get my own router. My problem with the eircom router was, it was grand when one or two mobiles or laptops were connected. The problem was as we got more connections the router would hang up and drop the wifi. From reading forums on the net the newer firmware help the situation greatly....but eircom in there wisdom have the router locked down.

you have the most upto date firmware

it was pushed out a few months ago to fix an issue with NAT sessions causing the modem's memory to fill up and crash the modem.

That's weird because there are newer versions available?

Newer unbranded ones. The FW you're running is an eircom.branded and customized release. They'll only push out another update if there's a critical issue.

You can flash zyxels copy but eircoms.management system will bo longer be able to help you with tech problems and you'll need to configure the pppoe connection.

Its an old unit, they can send you a newer one which'd be a bit better.
