He's not wrong. German engineering, eh?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSA_HDi_engine

To be honest though, I think they used a PSA engine until they could switch to their own. Not sure when though.

It was originally the Toyota 1.4 engine
    Then the Peugeot 1.6
Now it's a BMW 1.6 on the current model.

It's not a Peugeot engine specifically. But rather a engine developed in partnership between PSA (Peugeot) and BMW, and manufactured by PSA.
Thar's the petrol PRINCE engine isn't it, but the derv 1.6 is just the ubiquitous DV6 isn't it?

It depends on how old the car is, they have moved onto a BMW 3 cyl 1.5 for 2014 up to Cooper D then a 2.0 N47 for the Cooper SD.

Well yes, we know it's not one of the new models. But a lot of us just assumed that because the R56/R55/R57 models started out with PSA engines that they used those engines for the lifetime of that model.....

But ... the OP is correct I think - the PSA DV6 was dumped somewhere 2010/2011 for the 1.6 (4pot) BMW Diesel that is also used in some toyotas. Very difficult to get details on it from a casual google.

Isn't that a question of whether the log book shows 1560cc meaning PSA or 1598 meaning BMW?

A bizarre comment given that they share an engine; iirc the new BMW i8 has the same 1.5 3 cyl as the Mini but I can't imagine any valid comparison. I guess you would regard the i8 as a dressed up Mini.

The mighty AJD-V6 twin-turbodiesel, in 2.7, 3.0 and 3.6l incarnations, is also developed in cahoots with PSA and in PSA vehicles is known as the PSA DT17.
