My 6 months probation has been successful, I'm just wondering if it's normal not to receive a new contract stating this. Both my last IT job and my current IT I haven't received it saying I am a permanent member of staff.

Is word of mouth enough? Get something in writing? Etc...?

    It depends.

Some places will give you a notice that you have passed/ not passed your probation. I don't think it is anything to worry about, if they say you pass it just goes to the normal portions of your contract.

It's not normal to get a new contract, in my experience. You would have signed a contract when you started which was intended to operate for the long term, but which provided that there would be a probationary period during which certain rules would apply. That period has now elapsed. That doesn't, in itself, create any need for a new contract. You might, or might not, depending on the practice of the employer get written confirmation that your employment has been confirmed, or something like that, but the fact is that if the probationary period has elapsed and they haven't extended it (which they would have to tell you about) or fired you, then you're permanent.
