Is their really any point in chill or 123? Got a quote direct from axa 1040, then proceed to fill a chill insurance quote thing, got rang half way through and go through the details with the person comes back to me say the best they can do is axa for 1270.

I told him I can do better myself and ended it their, where is this extra 230 coming from.

They're a broker. Sometimes it's cheaper to use a broker, sometimes it's cheaper to go direct.

I don't know about Chill, but generally brokers can be cheaper than going direct to the insurer. I don't know how, seeing as you are adding a middle man. I am currently with aviva through a broker, got their quote, went direct to aviva to get a quote, yet the broker was still substantially cheaper.

Same here. My AIG through a broker was way less than direct.

Always find the chill quotes good for a laugh. Divide by 2 and I know what to aim for myself.

    "We'll take it from here....."

i.e. the extra above what you'll pay elsewhere

Chill have been the cheapest for me a few times

The broker is never cheaper. Anybody who thinks this has not looked hard enough, I saved €600 this year (€1450 to €850) by spending a solid hour ringing around.

My broker has mine down under €400 the past two years with axa. I couldn't get anywhere near this having tried all the major insurers directly myself.

I'm not sure why this difference occurs but brokers can definitely save money in some cases. Admittedly I didn't bother ringing around this year as I was happy with the renewal quote from the broker and felt it was as good as I could realistically expect.

In your case at 1450 it's certainly worth ringing them all to see where you can get the best deal.

Can anyone recommend a broker, (NOT Chill.)
I'm having a nightmare getting a new quote with a small own fault claim in my history.

In your case maybe, but for the last 5 years my broker got me the cheapest deal and I rang around everybody.

AIG were ~150 dearer direct (750 vs 600) for the same policy with Chill. AIG policy, obviously.

I went through Chill Insurance broker and they were the only ones that got me the cheapest quote for an over 15 year old car. Many insurance companies would not even give me a quote. I got the cheapest from ARB insurance. I have a full year now to let my hair grow back after pulling it out from the frustration of this 15 year old car garbage.

That will be my fun next year, don't know whether to try and get rid of it as insurance might be insane next year.

It's not looking good at all for next year as well as you say. I'll give myself 3 days next time looking for quotes from all 30-odd insurance companies and maybe just maybe get a lower quote. Sure my motor tax alone for one year is dearer than my car is worth, crazy country.

The shocking reality of all of this 15 year old insurance garbage is that I know that many folk will not bother insuring their vehicle because of the insane price-hikes this year. More price-hikes next year because of more uninsured drivers

I spent more than a solid hour ringing around. All quotes coming in well over €1000. So I just renewed with 123.ie for €650.

Not true, there are insurers out there that only deal with brokers and they wouldn't exist if they were not competitive for their target market. You've not looked hard enough

Current insurer wouldn't budge on price and were happier for me to leave than to lower the cost.

Same insurer through chill were cheaper by 100 quid.

Same here, but a ~ €200 saving over going direct. Similar story with Zurich or Allianz, can't remember which.

25plus.ie (AIG under the covers) wouldn't insure my wife on her new car, she got an AIG policy on it through chill, going to AIG direct was ~€150 more. As far as I can tell it's exactly the same policy.

Same here with chill, got a price with Aviva, chill insurance sent me their best quote which was double the price Aviva gave me
