I am doing a gateway scheme and I have been offered part time work which I am excepting, I plan on doing both jobs hoping that at the end of the week I will walk out with a decent wage. I do 19.5 hours a week in gateway for 208 euro a week and I will be doing another 15 hours a week for 8.65 an hour. I have made it up that with 208 euro for gateway and 129.75 euro for the part time job I should have about 337.75 weekly before tax. Im wondering if Im doing part time work how it will affect my payments with gateway and how much tax, prsi and usc am I looking at paying out of the 337.75 a week. Has anyone done a gateway scheme and work part time or has done something similar id be glad to hear advice and if there is somethiing I missed or any triip ups I may not be aware of then your advice wuld be most helpfull, thanks.

I'm not on Gateway, but I am familiar with the scheme. Gateway was set up for long term unemployed. If you get a job even if it is only part time you are no longer unemployed and therefore not eligible for gateway anymore. If your part time job is temporary then you can 'suspend' your gateway for the duration of the new job and return to it when your paid job is finished, without having to re-apply for the dole or anything like that.

Thats is not correct. Once you do your 19.5 hours on gateway, you can work as much as you want as you are no longer unemployed, you are employed by the local council in your area, and your contract is with them and the payroll is done by Pobal. so it will not affect your payment. Most of these schemes tend to be flexible as they want you to get a job away from them.

Casher is right when he says that if you cant perfom your 19.5 hours on gateway, you can freeze your place on GAteway for up to 6 weeks and just pick up where you left off with out having to have a reclaim with social. If you were to drop off gaqteway due to getting a job, you can always come back and finish your time on gateway, 22 months from the original starting date. Once you are finished on gateway you cant do another gateway scheme for 3 years.

Gateway is directly linked with the local councils and runs for 22 months working 19.5 hours a week, but you keep all your secondary benifits, Medical card, rent allowance ETC ,ETC

On the payment side of things once you go over €350 you pay 4% PRSI, your exempt for the first €350 and exempt for USC on gateway but not your Part time job. How much tax you pay this year will all depend on when you started on gateway. Your yearly tax credit is divided by the number of weeks left in the year.

I would go to your employer and tell them about Job+. If you work 30 hours a week an employer can claim up to €10,000 over 2 years and it is paid monthly to them by the social.

I only started gateway 3 weeks ago, Im only working 15 hours a week in the part time job so id rather do both the gateway and the part time work if it can amouth to a decent wage at the end of the week. I guess im wondering if i start the part time work will it affect my gateway payments and am i looking at getting lashed out of it on tax on the part time job even thoe it only amouths to less than 130 euro a week. Been trying to find info on this on the net but there is none. Thank you for your posts.
