    Hey detailing folks,

I know this question has probably been asked 100 times. I'm looking to pick up a DA polisher and some polish, clay bar ect. I had a look on some of the older posts but do you know of any deals\detailing packages going at the moment?

I just picked up my new (second hand) car yesterday after been without my own car for a few years. There are a few light swirl marks and the likes that I would like to get out and get a nice bit of protection on it too. I've been polishing my van and wife's car by hand using the Meguiars products but i want to get a real good finish on this car.

    Thanks

I'd say your best bet of getting a D/A is from Detailing Shed. I don't think he keeps them in stock though as they're such a high value item but he does order them in. Not sure if he waits until he has a few orders before placing an order himself but it's certainly worth asking him.

Just had a look on mrdetail's site and he's out of them too. He used be active here but haven't seen him around in an age.

You could also ask around in the forum here. I'm of the opinion that we should have a buying/selling sub-forum where individuals can sell their detailing stuff, maybe get it sponsored by Detailing Shed or something like that.

    They have stuff listed here

http://dnddetailing.ie/product-category/polishing-machines-accessories/ but you might want to ring just to be 100% sure they're in stock.

They'd a stand at a car show in Limerick racecourse a few months ago and seemed sound :)

This is something that is badly needed but as you and I both know we would probably be told "Adverts is for selling" :(

    Thanks a mill Boardsies,

I was thinking about the Kestrel das6 and the Menzerna polish products. Would they be good products to start or could you recommend any alternatives.

    Thanks,

    Get a DAS6 Pro.

Menz is good polish but I personally found it very dusty.

What products do you use yourself?

    What car is it?

Really, dare I say, any decent enough cutting and jewelling Polish will do you. Good Polish pad combo and good technique.

    I tried scholl s17 & s40 when I dipped the toe in.

different paints need different levels of cut.

I would just get a pro to do a paint correction for you and clean it properly after that. You wont need to go at it with a machine again for years if you use correct technique and products for washing and waxing.

I've always enjoyed polishing cars myself but I've always done it by hand, as you know there is only so much you can do by hand. I'd like to get some decent kit to do it now. I know one could damage the paintwork by cutting the paint too much but I do think I'd get the use out of a DA between the wife's car, parent's cars and friends.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I had considered it. I've seen some of James VTI S's work and it's impressive. He is down my side of the country so I'll give him a shout if I go that route.

Sorry, I can't advise you here as I have zero experience with ford paint.
I only did VAG and BMW paint which both are hard paints.

This mioght assist you in determining the paint hardness.
I would suggest start light and work up in terms of cut.

Bought the silverline rotary listed on dnds site a while back( actually bought it off amazon). Then bought their menz fine polish and a couple of courser grades of polish from wolfs chemicals off various places. When I started to prep for polishing/cutting ect I realized my car is absolutely covered in chips and scratches ect (it's a 02) . Started trying to fill the chips ect, mainly focusing on the bonnet. You've to wait for lacquer to dry a few days when trying to fill chips and then you try to level it and it comes off ect and it doesn't work out as you'd hoped and eventually you get tired and try polishing regardless and wonder are the swirls reducing and that's basically where I'm at at the moment lol.
