    Hi all,

Just starting to plan for winter 2017 and wondering if anyone's already done the legwork and would have venue suggestions for Kildare/Dublin/Meath with capacity for about 150 guests?

I think a country house type place might work better than a hotel as OH's family will travel from the US and likely spend Christmas there so might be more homely than a hotel and I like the idea of nice indoor photos and presume country house more likely to have big open fires and the likes in winter.

    Suggestions appreciated!

We had ours in Rathsallagh this past July and it was fantastic, couldn't recommend it highly enough and all of our guests have raved about it since.

You should take a look at Trudder Lodge in NewtownMountKennedy
Another fabulous venue is Ballynatray Estate - it's an easy 1 3/4 hour drive from Wexford.

Both have exquisite gardens (albeit on different scales!)

    Happy hunting

Thanks a million for the replies everyone.

Really like the look of Ballymagarvey and Trudder Lodge.

Rathsallagh is fab too but my brother is getting married there about six months before our date so sadly we can't go twice!!

You could have a look at the Station House in Meath too,it's a hotel but in loosest sense. Fab food, service and grounds. Bit unusual too. We had the same desire for a country house but it just felt right and we had an amazing day. Also a lot more reasonable price wise that the likes of ballymargarvey etc

Hi I was also looking at booking Ballymagarvey Villiage or else Barberstown Castle in Maynooth. Barberstown were so helpful and were open to bargaining giving that we are inviting over 150 people. But Ballymagarvey was stunning but I get the impression that it’s a conveyor belt for weddings these days. We are torn so any feedback you could give us would be appreciated.

both have their plusses and minuses. Both very scenic, really nice staff and food. BMV a lot pricier than barberstown but youd get foir what you pay for there. Just wish theyed put the bar in main room, can never understand why they persist with the bar outside. Barberstown bar doesnt help either but its not as bad as BMV.

Rathsallagh is very very good, kippure estate in wicklow as well.

If your budget is stretching to BMV prices then look at luttrelstown castle too.

We got married in Finnstown Castle, I've nothing but good things to say about the place. Feels like you're in the country when you're really right beside the M50/N4/N7
