Good qualifications and reasonable work experience but can't get a job

I have a Degree in a Healthcare related field and a year's work experience but can't get a job. I got offered a job but the owner then told me she hired 2 illegal but skilled workers from Russia and Pakistan and then told me she didn't need me. I have been in my current role a year but am leaving as I keep ending up doing many hours of unpaid overtime and the pay is so bad that I am better off on the dole despite having an extremely responsible job.

I have sent applied for many jobs advertised on jobs websites and sent off 50 CVs. After all this effort I got 2 days contract work at the other end of the country. My Manager gives really bad references about me (as he wants to keep the well paid overtime for himself and have me doing the unpaid overtime).

Well you should seek legal advice about the bad references you get for a start.

You are not making a lot of sense, all health care and allied health care are very regulated by HIQA, if the owner has hired illegals workers you should contact HIQA, you were made do unpaid overtime yet you say overtime is paid? are only managers paid overtime? are you still working with the manager who gives you the bad references have you asked them about it.

Don't use your manager for a reference!
