    Hi
i am moving down to sligo to the country and i have been looking at various broadband packages. does anyone use this service ?

    http://www.westconnect.net/

its not the fastest service but at least its unlimited download and no contract.
just wondering if anyone has dealt with them and if the are reliable.

    thanks

Can't say I've ever heard of them. Where approximately are you moving too? Have you checked whether VDSL will be available in your area, now or in the future? Wireless broadband can be ok, but it can also be flaky. It might also get pretty congested at peak times, seeing as they are advertising unlimited data.

i will be moving to the riverstown area. im weary of going with some of the mobile isp's as i would say i am a heavy broadband user (streaming and gaming) and don't want to get caught out by download limits.

Have you checked the service from Eircom in the house youre moving to? If youre not too far from the local exchange your speeds may be OK. You will be able to find an unlimited provider over ADSL no worries, Im sure Pure Telecom do one although I aint checked as Im with UPC on 240Mb but thats in Sligo itself.

You may not even be able to get it, it all depends on the exact house and if you can get line of site to their network. Usually with fixed wireless providers they send an engineer out to have a look with a pair of binoculars and if they see the antenna from somewhere on your property, usually on the chimney, they can go ahead and install it. I had the same type of setup in Louth with Net1. It was perfect for gaming, ping to UK servers was the same, if not lower than using ADSL and cable connections. The only issue you might have is the contention ratio. They quote 10Mb for example, but that may be subject to contention with loads of other users and with Netflix and all the streaming sites these days, fixed wireless networks have struggled with available bandwidth. net1 went from full speed to an absolute crawl in the last few years. So much so they wont even take any new customers in most areas they provide service to.

    I do.

Located near Ballymote. They are reliable and flexible - if you really need something they don't offer (higher speeds etc.) - ask them.

I also can confirm - their unlimited IS really unlimited - no small print, no fair usage policy.

Why does it say your ISP is Eircom?

Because westnet (I guess) bought commercial (or something like) connection from eircom and resells it in pieces.
