Where to find lodgers?

    <mod snip>

    Im looking to rent out a room, but without messing numerous people around, whats the best way to go about it.

    I have one guy who rents a room (soon to move out) and I remember that when he moved in about a year ago I had to reject about 6 other people (off daft) who wanted the room. one by one.

    Believe me this sucks for the person saying no too.
    It feels so shtty to do that - get someones hopes up and then just give the whole 'unfortunately blah blah blah ...' response.

    Is there a list anywhere out there of potential lodgers, so that I don't have to get peoples hopes up. What alternatives are there to just the likes of daft, or general ads.

    Do people put their details online, or make themselves available or will I just have to go down the route of dashing hopes and wasting peoples time again.

    Are you looking for third level students as lodgers? If not this post is in the wrong forum.

    Head down to your local college / university & put an ad in with their accomodation office, you can set the terms / conditions etc. get them to offer it once at a time to students enquiring & just let them know to take down the ad when you have someone in.
    I've two mates mates coming to stay in my home this college year & not charging through the nose, just enough to cover the expenses of hosting them plus bills to keep the house going.
    And they can stay or move out at their convenience mid term. I find it the safest way to get lodgers because they're vouched for and won't be messers.
