Does anyone actually have a combi Microwave / conventional oven/ grill ? I looked at an electrolux model which had metal bars inside to hold the metal grill pans under the metal grill .... i thought metal couldnt go in a micro ?
shop assistant was mystified too, quick look through the instructions didn't suggest that you needed to remove the metal stuff before microwaving ... but just seems odd

there are not many reviews of combi ovens on boards, just one post where people say the grill gets spattered and smokes a lot when the micro is used ..

anyone out there actually have one of these ??

We have a built in combi unit and it is usually only used as a microwave. It sometimes gets accidentally set in grill mode and this ruins the plastic containers that were supposed to be microwaved!

Is it any good as a grill or oven, I don't know but it does do both functions (when it's incorrectly set).

The metal that is part of the oven is OK as it is earthed at one (or both) end and is designed not to resonate at the microwave frequency of 2.5GHz so it won't get hot.

Can't recommend the Siemens iq700 range enough, you'll have to shop hard to get a good deal on them, we've an iq500 combi microwave oven and iq700 oven. Set up looks like a large double oven.
There's new models out now so you might pick up a deal on the old one, Redmond electric in Gorey had the best price in the country but we went for whole Siemens kit, hob, dishwasher and fridge as well as the ovens.

Thanks Both. Have you ever found problems with the grill element getting spattered , and this then causing lots of 'smoking' when the microwave gets used ??
We are looking at a EVY7800AAX Electrolux combo oven / grill / microwave

Not with either of the Siemens, wouldn't push you either way with the iq500 combi but the iq700 oven is unreal, turns me into a mastechef model number is HB78GB590B its been replaced by a newer model a few months ago but the new one is big bucks but you might pick this one up for a song, all the mrs friends are wowed with it.

I'd prefer the oven to do the grilling. Any combi grill-microwaves I see always look dirty inside.

We have an AEG Competence Pyrolytic Oven and a AEG Micromat Combi Oven/Microwave.

That Combi Oven is smaller than the actual Pyrolytic Oven and more expensive as well, but i decided to get both of them just for the hell of it.
Besides which, they look great one above the other.

Also, you never know when you may need to cook different items in two ovens at the same time (Xmas etc).

The pyrolytic function on the main oven is just fantastic. No more oven cleaner fumes!
It also has a plug-in thermometer, but i've only ever used that once.

AEG & Electrolux are the same product but just different brands. I decided to pay a slight bit more for the AEG brand just in case i was going to sell the place... i thought it was better to have the slightly swankier name on the outside.

The fridge, freezer, washer & dishwasher are all integrated/hidden so we went with Electrolux versions for those.

The distributor is: KKS (Kontinental Kitchen Supplies), Cherry Orchard Industrial Estate,Dublin 10.

You cannot purchase from them (need to purchase from a kitchen supplier), but you can visit them and view all the ranges/brands they stock and get the RRP prices etc. They are very helpful even though they don't sell direct.

I think i paid circa €800 for the main oven and circa €950 for the combi oven.

We use the main oven for usual oven/grilling stuff and the combi for microwave only.

If you don't cover stuff in the microwave then the roof/grill element does get splattered - but nothing that a quick wipe every so often won't sort out.

Considering that one can pick up a standalone microwave for around €180, it is quite a considerable expense...but the kitchen design also matters.
It looks great, feels great and works great...even one year later.

So do your research, go to lots of showrooms, chat to lots of people online and get loads of reviews before making up your mind.

drunkmonkey, i had a siemens oven before and it was fine except it took about 15 to 20 mins to get to the right temp to bake. I like the look of the IQ700 and in that clip, she puts a raw chicken into a cold oven! Just wondering how your oven is for heating up quickly?
