Hey Guys a quick question what's the difference between a flock or herd number. Can someone with a flock number buy cattle or do they have to apply for a herd number. Thanks

    Flock for sheep only
    Herd for cattle only
Equine number for horses donkeys only
A separate herd number for pigs only
Think poultry need a number or to be regrestered
    Not sure about goats

I dunno about that. There is a separate number on the tags, which is like IE04000000 where 000000 is your flock number.
    (Or so I thought?)

Yes they're the same actual number but if you only have a flock no you can't go and buy cattle

You just need to inform the department and they'll activate your herd for sheep. I think you might need to put it in writing but other than that there should be no bother
