Etihad cutting back and Emirates bringing the A380 to DUB will surely scare Qatar off starting a Dublin route I'd assume?

How is it different to 3 777's and 1 A332 service to Abu Dhabi and Dubai as it was last autumn?

Personally I think Qatar wouldn't be trying to squeeze in with the other 2 so well established.

It was first suggested a year ago that Qatar were coming, at this point I highly doubt we will see them in Dublin.

With Etihad slashing their baggage allowance to 23kgs in economy from 30kgs on flights from Dublin it is another reason to choose Emirates instead.

Apparently the service reduction is due to lack of aircraft and poor yields from Dublin.

    - Etihad will be returning their A340 aircraft back to the lessors at the end of the lease term.
    - The current focus on cost reduction to improve profitability. This can be seen by the average consumer from downgrades to the loyalty program, the economy class ticket downgrade (increased charges and baggage allowance reductions), in flights service - smaller meals & poorer quality, less alcohol etc. I travelled business in July and the change in service level was unbelievably poor compared to even 12months ago.
    - I also hear that EY's handling contract with AI will cease in October/November so this may also have played a part. EY also park the A330 in Dublin from early afternoon which hampers growth when you are short on aircraft and could be used more effectively elsewhere in EY's network.

The rumour is we wont see a regular return of the Dublin double daily until a two class 787 becomes available.

Its also clear that EY are losing the battle to EK in Dublin. I can remember when at their peak EY had two 777s servicing Dublin daily which was incredible. The general talk is that EY may even pull out of Dublin completely if they have a poor first half to 2016. I personally don't believe this will happen because EY still seem to be filling their planes from my experience even if yields are poor. EY have so many new aircraft on order (similar to EK A380 problem), they need to fly them somewhere.

In total J will reduce by approx 4 seats and Y will be down by approx 120 seats daily. It does depend what configuration of aircraft they send.

i flew with Etihad a few weeks ago to the depths of Asia and have to say i was extremely disappointed by their service.

its a complete step down on Emirates who i flew with on the same route, a few weeks before that.

ill be doing it again shortly and ill be choosing Emirates no question.

Damn! I'm flying with Etihad in a few weeks Ultra long haul so this is disappointing, is Abu Dhabi still jam packed with long Security lines? It has been 2 years since I flew Etihad now. Were you on the 777-300ER or the A330, I always find the A330 a more civilized experience compared the 777-300ER. Sorry for drifting off topic :o

Recent experience on a 3-4-3 777-300 not a ME3 carrier and I have to say the shoulder room was my problem, very difficult to eat without bumping either passenger either side of you. 31in pitch was ok but gets tighter when you recline and seat squab slides forward. I'd be choosing a 330 any day over a 777, certainly next time I'm flying to Canada I plan on going via Frankfurt for the 330 and the earlier arrival. I imagine it's the same on EK and EY 777s.

Abu Dhabi airport actually tends to be much better these days.

Security screening is now done centrally when you enter the terminal building. For example after the inbound flight arrives from Dublin, there is a bus to terminal 1. At the point of entry to the terminal the security screening is done. From my experience (transited 10 times in the last couple of years) the queue tends to shorter than before and is a significant improvement on the previous process.

Dublin is all A330 at the moment and is OK to fly in economy. Acceptable but nothing special. Economy class is never going to be anything but bearable on any carrier in my experience.

B777 is equally ok to fly. I don't tend to find it as claustrophobic/jam packed as other tend to make out. I actually prefer as there is slightly more leg room and I find it easier to sleep. But this is a personal preference.

The new midfield Terminal is due to open July 2017 I believe.
