Walker Cup 2015 - The Famous Five

Congratulations to the five Irish guys who've made the team, as of today (24/8/2015). Take a bow Paul Dunne, Gavin Moynihan, Gary Hurley, Cormac Sharvin and Jack Hume.

In 93 years of competition we've never had five on the team, so it says something about the strength of Irish amateur golf... and perhaps more. Two (Dunne and Moynihan) have already announced they're turning pro after the event.

This thread is just here so that it can be referred back to it in a few years' time when people ask... 'who was on that team?' 'when did he turn Pro?' 'he's made millions this year... who did he play with/against in 2015?'

Here's a photo of the US 2007 team which beat Rory McIlroy (and some other players)... how many do you recognise?

    GB&I v USA Lytham St.Annes Sept 12-13 .
Teams were announced today and history has been made !
5 IRISH amateurs have been named to the 10 man GB & Ireland team -- 2 Scots , 3 English.
Ireland had 4 legends of Amateur Golf on team in 1949 & 51 -- Joe Carr, Jimmy Bruen , Cecil Ewing and Max McCready who won the British Amateur at Portmarnock in 1949.
In 2015 Ireland has Paul Dunne, Gavin Moynihan, Jack Hume, Gary Hurley and Cormac Sharvin -- lets hope they also become legends in their own time by reclaiming the legendary amateur trophy in September .

Trip Kuehne on the right standing. Hank Haney mentions him a couple of times in "The Big Miss".
Used to coach him when he was a junior i think.

Think tiger beat him in the final in one of his US Amateurs.

I&gb up in 3 of the matches so far with all thru 9 holes.

Hurley and dunne are 1 down.

Strange that dechambaux wasn't in any of the U.S. Pairings.

BBC2 have been showing highlights since 2:00 but are now showing live coverage of the singles

Another loss for dunne. Played 16 and 17 very poorly.

Great comeback by Hurley though. 3 down through 8 and now 1 up thru 12.

Should be 7 to 5 to GB&I (didnt see Jack Hume finish up but he was 1 dn on last...)

So far it's two wins in the Sunday foursomes; Paul Dunne's match finished 1 up but the likelihood is that the last two matches will be one each to both teams.

Should be 10-6 going into the singles.

And that's how it has finished. 10-6 to GB & I.

Paul Dunne takes so long for some shots, painful to watch at times

Job done. Paul's half with the wonderfully named Maverick McNealy finished the job.

Great result, and great Irish representation.

Unfortunately he wasn't the only one, with the limited golf and live coverage we saw how long these guys are taking and its way more than any slow golfer I've played with, the U.S. guys were crazy slow with all shots tee to green.

Cormac Sharvin with 3 wins from 3 games, two of them by a 5&3 margin was easily the standout Irish performer.

Paul Dunne was warned 3 times during the 2 days that he was taking too long.
He will have to change when he plays for money on Tour -- PGA will be watching him after that display.
