When will car insurance pay out?

    Can you tell me how long I should be waiting for car insurance to pay out after a claim. I had an accident that was 100% the other drivers fault. His insurance provided a car hire the next day. They sent an assessor who said that the car was wrote off and asked the recovery people for a bid on how much they would be willing to buy it for. This was last tuesday and I haven’t heard much at all from the other insurer.

    When should I expect to receive an offer/payment for my car? They only gave two weeks car hire.

    They should have an offer made very shortly. Have everything to go for them when it comes in (log book, NCT Certs, spare keys, IBAN/BIC numbers if they want to do electronic transfer of funds) and have some research done on pre-accident value to ensure you are happy with the offer when it comes in. Payment usually takes approx 5 working days when everything is agreed

    I wrote my car off a few months back.Happened on a Wednesday the assessor was out on the Friday and rang me with an offer straight away ( which I accepted) cheque was posted out the following week, so was about 10 days in total.That was with Aviva

    If the delay is on their part, they should be stumping up for your out-of-pocket until the cash is in your hand. They really ought to give you another week on top while you actually find a replacement. It's not like you can magic an identical replacement out of your backside the instant the money appears.

    They'll offer you less and make it sound like their doing you a massive favour...

    4-5 working days would be the norm, from agreeing a settlement to payment reaching the account on a transfer.

    Where liability isn't an issue and everyone gets their finger out, from crash to cash would be approx 2 weeks +

    Took less than 2 weeks for me earlier this year. The assessor was out two days after I wrote the car off. (Single vehicle collision though).
