They are taking a " year off ".

That always goes well. Doesn't it.

One thing has always puzzled me.

TV shows and magazine show them 5 boys and say, " You will scream at them and spend all your pocket money on their shyte ".

    And they do !

Am I missing some Jedi mind trick.

In before a Louie Walsh 'splitting' some of them joke.

Louis Walsh was asked who he thought would win the X-Factor.

"I fancy One Direction." Louis replied

"Ok Louis, but who do you think's gonna win?"

Meh, I actually didn't mind them compared to other boy bands I grew up with - their songs were fairly crap but not necessarily offensive (and that "You're Beautiful" song, while irritating and not my cuppa, I have to admit is catchy) and they weren't overly fake. Compared to the likes of N'Sync, The Backstreet Boys, etc they were grand. Kind of like Westlife or Take That I guess... bearable.

Would not recognise any of their songs.
At least Westlife and Boyzone had a few catchy pop songs

    Maybe not Westlife.

The smart money is on "just the one".

And a "reformation tour 2017" to provide the pension.

Hi everyone. I'm one of the guys in One Direction, I'm the dude with the stupid hair. Anyway, we just all thought it was time to move on. We've had a great time over the last few years and are very grateful to all our fans. Peace out.

They wasted three nights in croke park last year. And they split. Some one else could have had those nights.

    What a waste.

Cue the stories of stupid little teen girls threatening suicide and acting like their lives are over on reading this news.

Is this likely to mean we see more or less of Harry Styles? Ugh he makes my skin crawl. Hopefully he'll fade to obscurity now.

Two more crappy boy bands will take their place. I hope the Mexican band juan direction sticks together.

You cut off one head and two more will grow in its place.

One direction split-cost benefit analysts have determined they're not viable.

Now if only people like Louis "peter pan" Walsh and Simon "I'm not ghey, really!" Cowell would split into millions of pieces we wouldn't have the listen to anymore of these manufactured groups of kids who look right and can be thought the rest singing old songs that royalties don't have to be paid on.

Shure you can only do 'Come-Back' Tours after a split.

It's the way the music industry works now...

Meh. Been done. In fact, if you don't do it you're not at the races. Spending a year dead for tax reasons, taking time out to write memoirs, have at a solo career playing acoustic guitar and writing/singing incredibly tedious, self-indulgent, deep'n'meaningless albums in an attempt to persuade the now twenty-summat former teenage fans that you're a Serious Artist(TM) à la that ex-soldier chappie in The England, race-car driving, Owning your Okayness through the medium of vegetable grooming - they'll probably be back in a couple of years when it dawns on them that the whole 1D malarkey bates working for a living. :pac:

Just in time for X-Factor to "discover" the next depths of mediocrity.

In fairness though, they've made quite a few quid, certainly more than working a silage crew in Westmeath. They'll be set up for supermarket openings and celebrity editions of poor reality shows for the rest of their days.

Not to mention the autobiography at 21, just in time for Crimbo 2016.

One. The one they did for sesame street. My toddler loves it as they appear to be pitched aimed at _around_ That level.

I have probably heard more of their songs on the radio or some such but just not known it.
