I know it isnt going to be cheap so im preparing my pocket:pac:

Can ebay be trusted and with the exchange rate being so poor at the moment i dont think there would be much of a saving to be had anyways

What year is your A4 and which engine is in it?

Are you looking to save money by sourcing the parts yourself?

If so then have you checked out the figures for supply and fit versus sourcing the parts yourself and paying just for fitting? How much are you going to save?

I know that the way we structure our pricing makes it unlikely that anyone will save money by sourcing parts themselves and paying us for labour. I would say a lot of garages are working on a similar basis.

Plus if the parts develop a fault within the supplier's warranty period you will have to pay for labour again.

Thanks for the reply George its a 2009 a4 Cagc engine in it.

I was on last year about it i asked your advice before thanks .
Thing is it was making a fair racket last year for about 3weeks then it totally disappeared i still have no vibration on the clutch pedal its grand through gears and on inclines etc.

The new problem i noticed lately is when the car is parked up and idling with car on full lock to the right an intermittent knock is appearing.

I sent it to my mechanic but because its so infrequent he couldnt find it.
I managed to get a recording on my phone and played it to him and he was fairly confident its the flywheel acting up on her.

Cheers for the input George greatly appreciate it feel free to pm me a price you would quote if i was to go to you to do it, unfortunately im in north cork:pac:

Only looking for price because i want an luk kit put into it and i want to know im not paying over the odds.

The kit is very expensive for the B8 A4. €715 from your local place wasn't actually a bad price tbh if it included the clutch kit as well. Our price for supply and fit on them is €1150. They are pretty labour intensive to do.

To the best of my knowledge the only options for replacement parts on these are Sachs and LUK so you aren't going to get stuck with a substandard kit if you get someone else to supply it.

The joys of owning a modern diesel i think:pac:
Could do without this at the moment only put a timing belt pump and new rubber all round:(

Thanks for the price George ill contact my mechanic and ask him to quote i know there very labour intensive to do.
The lad who would be doing it told me he has an mechanic from a vw audi dealership he uses when doing these.

In fairness i have the car nearly 3 years now 110km on the clock so if i do it now ill hopefully get another 3-4 years out of it :)easily.

Thanks again George you never know i might take you up on that quote in a month or two.

Consider having the mechanic supply the parts, I think they get a different VAT rate than you as the end user. When the clutch went on my CMax the mechanic in Gort (a very good mechanic and very reasonable PM me for details*), his parts and labour were cheaper than parts alone from Ford. I put over 100k km on the clutch and no problems. Also, in my case I needed clutch, DMF and slave cylinder, if you order online and order the wrong part or have parts missing, you're gonna be rightly stuffed.
You could do worse than Limerick Brakes, they have always been very reasonable.

I see your in Cork, maybe Gort is not in your locality. :D

Doesn't matter what the mechanic pays in VAT as he claims it back. VAT is paid for by the end user. So technically they don't "get a different rate", the end customer does.

However, I get your point. If you buy the parts yourself, you need to cost in the fact that in doing so, the VATman will get more.

If a garage does the job then the whole bill is settled with 13.5% VAT added.

If you buy the bits yourself, then 23% VAT.

The only two things I can think of that a garage charges 23% VAT on even when doing the job for the customer are tyres and batteries.

Thanks all for the replies reason I'm looking to get it myself is I'm stuck for cash at the moment.

I could afford to buy the kit say now and wait till it really needs to be replaced then get the mechanic to throw it in no way I could afford upwards of a grand in one go.

Only pricing it at the moment thanks for the tips and advice guys.

These threads scare me . ive the same car same year with 215k on the clock on the original clutch and flywheel with no obvious signs of it giving up.

ebay is great for getting prices
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=cagc+clutch+flywheel&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xcagc+clutch+flywheel+audi.TRS0&_nkw=cagc+clutch+flywheel+audi&_sacat=0

Though id be inclined to agree with what George says. My own garage at home gets parts at a good price, when i compare prices i find i can only at best match them.
My advice to you is to save money towards it . It could be a year or two before you get around to fitting it. in the mean time anything can happen, you could change the car , it could be stolen or written off in an accident . then you have a flywheel and clutch of no use to you

    most likely yeah,
Ah i only have the car 6 months and plan to keep it for a few years so i know its coming and it wouldnt bother me too much having to do it as it will be done for my lifetime of the car . I would prefer to put a few quid into the car each year than leaving it all go and having to everything together like tyres, clutch, timing belt.

I think a lot of the problem is driving style
.70 % of my driving is town and city and the rest motorway.
Diesels don't like the constant changing gears in the city therefore more wear and tear.

I have my a4 3years from 58k and its only now its noticeable.
I usually would have had the car traded by now and said oh what a great car it was.
My buddy has a 08 a4 and only that he is searched the service history he would never have known his was replaced in the UK.
