been here 3 months. came with goal of staying for a year or 2 but already thinking of returning. had a job for a bit, used my savings to travel and now on the job hunt again. its hard to describe but im finding it very hard to get into work mode. i go on the net and see all these jobs like kitchen hand and stuff and i for some reason dont actually want to do that work. its next to imposible to get work related to my degree here aswell. i feel deep down id be better to return home for a year or 2 and save up for another trip.

i feel like i havent put enough effort in the job hunt but holidaying and and working in a country seem to be 2 very different things with the first one obviously being more enojyable. i feel like id be the only person to ever come home this soon though. its like im in a rut where i just want to travel but dont really want to work here.

am i being stupid for thinking of returning? its my only chance at this in this country and i see so many people make a real good go of it. but im jsut thinknig about going home. its not like i love home though, i left there to get out of a rut in the first place! finding it very hard to make a choice. on the one hand at least i tried and found it isnt for me but on the other ill be regretting it when i arrive home to the same old sh*t.

You wouldn't be the first to return earlier than expected so forget that one.
If you want to stay on to travel and need money you're going to have to knuckle down and get some work.

I realise that kitchen work mightn't be what you want but think short term effort for long term gain.
    Good luck

No you won't be the first or last to come home early. If you need money for traveling why not do some fruit picking on a farm? I've seen them on the tv and its a good way to make easy money. I came across this website/blog which will give you an idea from another persons point of view about making money in Australia, but cannot post a link as I am a newbie on this website.

What about the hospitality industry? It may not be what you have a degree for but sometimes you need to get yourself off of the block and keep going.

If you have only been in Australia for 3 months you have only been here for Winter, a lot of people batten down the hatches for winter and then in Summer life really picks up and is really good. Where are you? I am in Sydney and this winter has been cold and today is like a winters day at home, but, what makes it easier is the guaranteed summer that is on the way.

Take a job, anything to make friends and a few bob, don't give up yet. There is no shame in going home early, but, at least get a summer out of it.
