water storage pitfalls

    If I put in a 10000L plastic storage tank or 2 for parlour washdown and cattle drinking Fed from a well and roof water will it go stagnant or turn green? Or are there any other problems in doing this?
    I know will need a filter for roof water.

    I'd suggest keep one tank for roof collection only and a seperate smaller tank for the well. Use the night rate esb to fill the tank from the well. If you have a generator 1-2 day supply of fresh water should be enough.

    Also put some sort of float switch/ball cock near the bottom of the rainwater tank so it will be filled from mains/well in dry weather. You'd need non-return valve on this to stop rain water getting into the well water system.

    Algae need light to grow, so if you use black/dark green plastic tank you should be ok.

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    A table soon of bluestone will keep away algae and good for the cattle also

    Its gravity feed so no pump needed on well side but drinkers would need to be pumped.
