    Like anything shop around.

Some will give an initial, short, consultation fro free. The cost of a full divorce can run to the tens of thousands but it really depends on a myriad of factors. Presumably the separation step is cheaper.

Before comsidering legal action in any family law situation, carefully and fully consider mediation

+1 on what MarkAnthony and nuac have said. Initial consultation can be free and look at coming to a separation agreement through mediation or through collaborative law practice (similar to mediation but using solicitors trained in collaborative law rather than a mediator).

Separation covers all the same ground as divorce so I don're think you'll find a judicial separation to be much cheaper than divorce.

What does make a significant difference to the ultimate cost is what you can and cannot agree on and how far one or other or both are willing to go to get what they want.

If you can both come to an agreement and can go into court with a separation agreement to be approved and made an order it need only cost a few hundred euro.

If either party digs in their heels resulting in a difficult and protracted case it can be a question of how deep are your pockets?
