    Hi all,

Sorry for the generic question bug I'd appreciate any advice and input on what speed I could reasonably expect on my broadband. I'm in a rural area about 2.5km along the road from the exchange. My speed is 6.2 mb no matter what time of the day or night I test it. Recently I used the online line checker and it showed me available for 10mb. I called eircom who told me I'm on my max stable speed of 6.2 and any higher and I'd have poor service (disconnects). My stats from myodrm are as follows. I know I'd not get the full 10mb the line checker shows. But could I get more than the current 6.2, I'd be delighted if I could. At this end of the scale every little counts. FTTH or FTTC or even "fibre powered" I wish lol.

    My stats:

    Connection
    broadband. : Connected
    DSL Mode : ITU G.992.1(G.DMT)
    Speed. : 7168 kbps/512 kbps
    Line Attenuation(Down/Up): 35.0 dB/ 21.5 dB
    DSL Noise Margin: 6.0 dB/ 20.0 dB

2500m loop looks right. 10-11 would be possible in an ideal setup.

dSNR is too low to go higher now. You need to find out why its not up at like 10-13dB right now like it should be. Eircom support should go through these steps with you but anyhows.

    1. Locate Master socket (Front door usually)
    2. Connect modem to master socket with short phone cable (1.5m or less)
    3. Disconnect all phones, monitored alarms, sky tv boxes
    4. Check line stats.

If dSNR jumps up, great, you can go higher. If not the cable quality may not allow it and chances of them resolving that are low enough.

Thanks Ed E. It's already plugged straight in to the main socket. There's nothing else connected as its broadband only. Eircom did say I was getting as much as I could and any higher would cause problems. Just wanted a second opinion incase I was been fobbed off. I'm lucky to be getting over 6mb and unlimited considering lots of people in rural areas don't get anything like that.

Mount Bolus is on the list for FTTH from eircom (if it ever goes ahead? Hopefully I might get that. I'm on the main road to the village and there are lots of houses near me so I might be in luck
