Hi I just wanted to know what qualifications would be needed to teach some of the modules on the LCA. For example Hair and Beauty module, Leisure and Recreation module and Hotel Catering and Tourism module. Would you actually have to be a qualified teacher or would a school bring in an outside person such as those working in the particular industry in relation to the subject?

Hair and beauty isn't done in our school, but the leisure one is taught by the pe dept and the hotel and catering one is taught by the home ec teacher.

As above, PE and Home Ec teachers covering those subjects in any schools I know. In several schools H&B is taught by someone already teaching relevant QQI subjects (hairdresser or beautician or both) in the school or locally. In others it is just taught by a teacher with an interest and decent ability in the area. They might arrange for a hairdresser to come in a couple of times when preparing for practical exams too.

In our school the leisure and rec is taught by the PE teacher, the HCT by the Home Ec teacher and the Hair & Beauty by a history teacher who just happened to be given it the first year it came to the school, she likes it and has kept it on ever since....so it probably depends on the individual school
