Lost all my photos

I just managed to wipe over 400 photos off my phone tonight...

All the holiday ones and other communion/confirmation ones also.

They were saved direct to the phone (galaxy s5) and not to an sd card. Don't seem to have been backed up to Google or Dropbox.

Am I fcuked here or can they be retrieved?

    There is hope.

Often, when you delete a file (picture, or whatever) what happens is that the file is still there, but the device (computer, phone) forgets where it is so it can over write the space with fresh data.

I would suggest Recuva, a free disc scanning tool, but others may have other suggestions.

Try downloading it onto your pc, then connect your phone and run it on the phone's memory.

    Fingers crossed for you!

+1 for Recuva. But do it soon as the phone will overwrite some of the images if you keep using it.

Did google+ photos do an online back up of them for you?

Have a look online and see. https://photos.google.com/

Your phone will usually give MTP access, not the same as a traditional mass storage device plugged into a PC. I doubt recuva will work on internal storage.

If you just deleted them, get a recovery app from the play store. If you did a full wipe you may be SOL.

This happened me before op, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but mine were gone forever.

Android operating sysytem changed a few years ago that meant recuva (other recovery software ) couldn't work anymore, I can't recall exactly, but think it was something to do with having to mount the phone as a hard drive, and an Android update prevented that.

I'm not telling you not to try btw, just telling you that in my case, it was fruitless.

Sorry to hear that op. Too late for you but let it be a warning to others to always back up their photos, or better still print all the important photos so they have a hard copy.

What phone do you have and what version of OS?

He says in the op it's a sgs5, so I'm guessing his Android version is well info 5.something.

I think gingerbread prevented the phone being mounted as a hard drive for data recovery, but as I said, it last happened me in Oct 13, so my recollections of my own plight are hazy.

Your only option would appear to be trying an Android based recovery app on your phone as it won't work connected to a PC. DiskDigger or Undelete are two good apps, but I think you need Root access with all of these types of apps.

It would be advisable in the meantime to turn off your wifi and data connections to avoid any auto updates of apps etc, and don't take any more photos or do anything that will write any more data to the phone.

If you don't have root access and you're not into doing it yourself you could always bring it into one of the Chinese guys in Dublin and let them do it for you. If you decide to do this, PM me and I'll recommend one.
