Hi! Just wondered if anyone has stayed in this hostel. It it safe for a single parent and two children aged 12 and 14. We had booked two nights in Disneyland in an hotel there on a package and then booked the Montclair Hostel to stay in for the other two nights - would we be better trying to see if we could extend our stay in the Disneyland Hotel and then just take the train in to see Paris?

Montmartre wouldn't be an area I would choose with kids, or even as a single woman to be honest, but I wouldn't advise trekking all the way in from Marne la Vallee either, or paying a premium for a Disney hotel.

Any reason you chose that part of the city?

I would suggest you stay somewhere around the Latin Quarter, plenty of budget hotels and more central.

Hi! Thanks for your comment/advice. Do you recommend any hotels in the Latin Quarter. Is Montmartre really that bad? It's 30 years since I was there, living in Paris as an au pair at the time, and I felt the area was safe enough. What makes the area unsafe now?

It is not a great area as there are very large gangs of eastern European criminals working there daily pickpockets, etc.

I was there last week and witnessed at least 5 gangs of 5 doing this.

Just be very careful and don't have your wallet in your bag but in an inside pocket or somewhere safe. Montmartre has a lot of security up by the church with police and army there all the time, its just the side streets that host the criminals.

Have a great trip but be careful!
