Has anyone used the above product.
Had a demo the other day.
Rep claims it uses less water and dries faster than sand & cement. Doesn't crack and if skimmed the same day there's a saving of 30-50% on the amount of skim used

Attended their air tightness seminar and got the demo also. I asked a plasterer and he said he wouldn't really recommend for savings or any other product advantages.

I had a quick look at the numbers and while I don't think you'll save a massive amount (if any) it should work out at approx the same amount as sand & cement.

There's the labour saving as well on the lads mixing outside and lugging S&C upstairs. With the hard coat it can be prepared in the room their plastering with a paddle mixer.

For the demo they don't there doesn't appear to me as much waste with the hard coat as more stays on the wall, very little mess on the ground when it's finished.

    Load of plastering sand €280-€340
    Cement €4.40-€5 per bag
    Plasticizer €20-€25 per 25L

Hard Coat €8-€9 per bag (claims 30%-50% saving on skim)

    Skim coat €10-€12 per bag

All the above include vat and are approx prices. If any one wants to do the maths for their own build.

    From the pdf
    at http://www.gyproc.ie/sites/default/files/Product%20Data%20Sheet%20-%20Gyproc%20Hard%20Coat.pdf

Test results undertaken in a UKAS accredited laboratory demonstrate that the application of Gyproc
Hard Coat + Gyproc Skimcoat finish over 100mm Irish manufactured concrete blocks, laid on edge, can offer an air permeability performance of 0.03m3/h.m2 (50pa)
    and it also says
Applied in conjunction with a final coat of Gyproc finish plaster,

Are both underlined materials the same

re the ACH, how does this compare with S&C [ scud and 2 coats] plus skim.

    Then it says here http://www.gyproc.ie/products/plasters/gyproc-hard-coat
    Key Features & Benefits
    Superior impact resistance
Pre-mixed for guaranteed quality and offers easy handling and less mess
    Lightweight for rapid application
Can be skim finished the same day
Compatible with all Gyproc Finish Plasters
Improves air tightness and energy efficiency My emphasis :)
    High resistance to efflorescence migration

My view is we use too much gypsum anyway, it is just a substrate for mould so I would go lime based, sin sceil eile of course

Sorry to drag up this thread. A rep rang me today offering the hardcoat as a better alternative to sand and cement, anyone any experiences good or bad with it? Thanks in advance.
