Feedback on Canyon Endurace CF

Does anyone here have a Canyon Endurace CF and if so how do you find it? If you had a similar style carbon bike before (like a Defy, Roubaix or Domane) I'd also be very interested to know how it compares with them.

Reviews are thin on the ground....

I've the Endurace CF 8.0 that I bought in the last couple of months. Still have less than 1000km on it, but it's a huge step up from the 7 year old Trek 1000 that I came from (and still use as a commuter, and probably winter bike). I've no real frame of reference of it compared to another CF bike, as this is my first one, but plenty in my club have been very impressed with it, especially for the price. I cycle purely for leisure and commuting (i.e. no racing), so this seemed like a better option than the likes of the Ultimate CF range. It's probably a competitor against the likes of the Cannonade Synapse, and in this regard it is very good value also, giving the full groupset (whatever it might be) in contrast to corners being cut on the chains or brakes among a lot of other big name brands.

As I said I've little frame of reference to compare to other CF bikes, but I'm very happy with mine. Plenty stiff, but also was very forgiving in the right ways climbing a chipping riddled surface up the Wicklow Gap before.

Thanks - like you I wouldn't be using it for racing but would like something that's relatively quick and rewards a bit of effort. I'm also looking at the Giant Advanced Pro 1 - it gets great reviews but I'm not really keen on the disc brakes as I've a few wheelsets that I'd like to get full use from. The Canyon is significantly cheaper too...

hi. i have the endurace about 10 months now.i got the cf9. i went for the cyan/black colour. its very nice to look at and every thing on it is quality. i had a trek madone 4.5 carbon before that and the canyon is very stiff in comparsion. the madone was a softer ride and was more comfortable for the longer trips but the endurace is very fast to accelerate and the 11sp ultegra is sweet.seamless gear change.the 11 sp 105 is much the same i heard.great bike at an unbelieveable price.

    +1

Also have the Endurace CF 9.0 black/cyan. Ultegra 11 speed is a dream compared to my previous groupset which needed planning permission to change gears. The geometry is quite relaxed so I don't think you'd be racing on it. The frame feels really dependable and the seatpost seems to make road bumps go away. Mine has a DT Swiss wheelset which wizzes along. Paid about €1.8k for the combination of components that were on it. Went from a Trek 1.1 XL to a Canyon L and it fits grand. Recommended.

Also have a cf 8.0 with 105. Really pleased with it, v comfortable, responsive, overall I'm happy. I came from a look 586 which was a 'sportive', relaxed (more than look 595 anyway). I have done about 3k on it, club rides, sportives etc. I don't find the Canyon any better than the look in terms of comfort, rideability etc, but shifting etc is much smother, which is to be expected going from a 4-5 yo. groupset to new. But the look was also a dream to ride, just changed cos I used to get a few speedwobbles on the look (hasn't been an issue on the canyon), and I felt it was time for a new bike.
So I would recommend it, great value, with the following caveats.
1- Canyon use non standard sized stems so changing can cost a bit more and also use an acros headset system which is again non-standard and a bit fiddly ( my mechanic dislikes it)
2- a clubmate got a knock to his almost new Endurace which chipped off some paint from the top tube, and there was a questionmark about a possible hairline frame crack. He spoke to Canyon who advised him to return it to have the frame assessed, which he did about 5-weeks ago. As far as I know, he's still waiting for the assessment and a report back - has emailed them a few times - not a happy bunny at this stage.

Like mine. It's a 9.0 11sp Ultegra with the R23 DT Swiss wheels. Much more comfy than my Cube Agree when doing 3 hours + on a run. Nice and light, good handling.

Only complaint I have is the fancy seat post is starting to creak a lot... getting annoying. Anyone else having this issue?

Take it out, clean the inside of the seat area of the frame and the seat post, stick a load of carbon paste on both surfaces and then put it back in and make sure it's not under-torqued (and not over-torqued either). Than normally does the trick. I have a Canyon with one of those fancy split seat posts as well. It used to always be slipping down, so i put a bit of tin foil between the two parts of the post and that seems to have solved that issue.

Cheers. I did the cleaning and paste job recently. Helped but didn't eliminate. Will try it again and make sure I'm very thorough.

I too have one of those seatposts. No noise with just under 3.5k on it.

It could be worth checking the saddle rails and the clamps themselves? They can make a bit of noise.

Don't forget to apply the Carbon paste to the inside of seat "posts" as well as the out side.

As lovely as it is... it does need loving care every 2k or so. Especially if you have been riding in horrible wet conditions, like today :/

    The manual is here

I've a CF SL 9.0, the chain dropped (once!) and the stupid "chainstay protector" came off, ripping off some paint. Canyon support was impressively bad. They said it'd be a 2-3 week turnaround.

Four months later, I finally got the bike back, they wouldn't comment on the damage except to say they considered it "crash damage" and that I should buy another bike off them, using their frame replacement scheme. If i want to avail of that, I'd have to give back the current bike as "they don't want a damaged bike in circulation".

To get this wonderful service, I had to ring the UK and Germany almost daily and email repeatedly without getting replies. I contacted them on Facebook, through their online chat system, and so so many phone calls where it rang out (it rings out after 20 minutes).

Even though my bike is very good, once you've got it, that's it: if there is any problem whatsoever, you're well and truly on your own.

And that's without mentioning the non-standard sized parts, and the very poor design of the "chainstay protector" which they say is on all of their bikes, and which, if it's ever used, essentially invalidates your warranty.

I will never buy from Canyon again, and I know of others who have decided not to buy Canyon, having seen what I went through.

Sorry to be so negative, but there you go!

Oh and Buzwaldo, their engineers don't actually do detailed frame assessments by the way, just visual inspection, so maybe give your buddy a heads-up: they "do not provide analysis or repair services", best your buddy will get is a response of "crash damage - buy a new one".
